If you’re a project manager or looking at the development of any commercial entity, such as an office block, school, etc, you’ll be aware that blinds are one of the best ways to upgrade the space.
A well-managed commercial blind installation process keeps programmes on track, avoids disruption, and lets you enjoy thermally efficient, convenient shading when all is said and done.
At Saxon Blinds, we take a transparent, methodical approach, guiding you from early consultation through to final fitting. With over 20 years of experience across schools, offices, hospitality, the public sector and high-end smart home projects, we understand what reliable execution looks like in real-world environments.
Below, we walk you through how we work, what types of blinds we offer and what you can expect when partnering with us.

What is the typical commercial blind installation process?
Our process is designed to reduce risk, provide accurate measurements and deliver consistent results, even on complex sites with plasterboard, drywall, unusual window frames or large glazed areas.
Consultation
Every project begins with a consultation with our team. This is an opportunity to discuss your requirements, priorities and constraints, and to draw on our experience across commercial, public sector and smart home projects.
We are here to advise on which blind styles, materials and operating methods are best suited to your goals, whether that is durability, light control, thermal performance, automation or visual consistency across a site. Our role at this stage is to help shape a practical, well-informed solution that aligns with your brief and budget.
Bespoke design & quote
Following consultation, we tailor a bespoke proposal to your specification. This includes selecting appropriate products from our range and presenting a clear quotation with defined lead times.
All blinds are made to measure and specified with commercial use in mind. Where required, this may include options such as complete blackout systems, motorised operation or smart integration. Our approach is straightforward and transparent, allowing project managers to plan with confidence.
Manufacturing
The majority of our blinds are manufactured in-house at our Northampton facility. Our production team has been manufacturing commercial blinds and shading systems for over 40 years combined, with particular expertise in heavy-duty manual, electric and motorised blinds.
We also source selected products from other leading manufacturers where appropriate, ensuring each project benefits from the most suitable solution rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. Our range continues to grow as we review new technologies and innovations entering the market.

Delivery & installation
Once manufacturing is complete, our installation team delivers and fits the blinds in line with the agreed programme. We are experienced in working within live environments such as schools, offices and public buildings, where coordination and professionalism are essential.
Our installers work efficiently and respectfully on site, ensuring blinds are fitted correctly and ready for use. From start to finish, our focus is on consistency, reliability and a smooth transition from concept to completion.
What types of blinds are available from Saxon Blinds?
We manufacture and supply a wide range of blinds suited to commercial and specialist domestic projects.
Operation
Manual
Includes chain operated roller blinds, gear operated systems and vertical blinds. Reliable, cost effective and suitable for most commercial spaces.

Motorised
Powered blinds controlled by wall switches or remote control. Ideal for large windows, extra-wide products and roof blinds.
Smart
Integrated smart home blinds using Somfy technology. Control up to 200 blinds via app, voice control or automation schedules.
Styles
Each blind style offers a different visual finish and method of operation. Selecting the right style depends on how the blind needs to sit within the window, how it opens and the overall look required across the space.
Venetian blinds
Venetian blinds are made up of horizontal slats, typically in aluminium or real/faux wood. The slats can be tilted open or closed to control light, or raised fully to clear the window. Faux wood blinds replicate the appearance of timber while offering a uniform, contemporary finish.

Vertical blinds
Vertical blinds consist of individual vertical vanes that hang from a headrail at the top of the window. The vanes rotate to adjust light levels and can be drawn to one side or split to open from the centre. This style is commonly specified for larger windows and glazed doors.
Pleated blinds
Pleated blinds are formed from a single piece of fabric folded into neat, structured pleats. They sit close to the glass and open by stacking compactly when raised. Pleated blinds are often used where a discreet appearance is required, including roof glazing and shaped windows.

Roller blinds
Roller blinds use a single piece of fabric that rolls around a top tube. The blind opens and closes vertically, either manually or via motorised control. When raised, the fabric rolls away neatly, making roller blinds a clean and simple option for commercial interiors.
Blackout blinds
Blackout blinds are designed to restrict light entering a space as much as possible. They are typically specified where light exclusion is critical, such as halls, classrooms or presentation areas. Blackout systems can be supplied across several blind styles depending on the application.

Is professional installation better than DIY for commercial blinds?
Yes. Commercial blind installation involves heavy duty fixings, accurate measurements and compliance with product and safety requirements. Professional installation services reduce risk, prevent damage and deliver long-term reliability.
FAQs
What is the difference between inside and outside mount blinds?
Inside mount fits within the window recess. Outside mount fixes above the window frame to increase coverage and light control.
Can you install blinds on plasterboard walls?
Yes. We use appropriate anchors and fixings for plasterboard, drywall or masonry.
Do you supply window film?
Yes. Window film is available to support glare reduction and privacy.
Are your blinds suitable for schools?
Yes. We regularly install school blinds designed for safety, durability and compliance.
Can commercial blinds be installed as a DIY project?
Commercial window blind installation is not a typical DIY project. It involves accurate positioning, brackets, wall plugs and fixings into plaster or studs. It’s recommended to use a certified installer to ensure you benefit from maximum thermal performance and durability.
Are smart blinds compatible with automated control?
Yes. Motorised window coverings can integrate into a smart home system, allowing operation by remote or app, which is a great way to manage light during summer months, getting the blinds into their desired position with ease.
